Let me thank you for the invitation to celebrate Israel’s Independence Day. There are dozens of days of independence being celebrated every year in the Czech Republic. Some I may attend, others I cannot. There is one I can never miss, however: it’s the Israeli Independence Day.

Bullets poured without direction and without end. No one lifted his head. “This is crazy,” one of the marines yelled to his buddy over the noise. “Yeah,” the buddy yelled back, “and we’ve only taken one house.”

And then, as if from the depths, came a new sound: violent, menacing, and dire. I looked back over my shoulder to where we had come from, into the vacant field at Fallujah’s northern edge. A group of marines were standing at the foot of a gigantic loudspeaker, the kind used at rock concerts.

Border War: Calm Before Storm As Dead BGB Returned

Alarmingly heated-up Burma-Bangladesh border has been back to hostile-normal after the body of dead BGB Corporal Nayek Mizanur Rahman was released back into Bangladeshi hands in the late afternoon of May-31.

Forty-three year-old Corporal Rahman was killed earlier in the morning of May-28 when he and one other man were trying to sneak into Burma. BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) later claimed that two BGB men were just on their routine patrol while Burmese side accused the two were in the yellowish camouflage uniforms of RSO insurgents and both were trying to breach the border-fence which is well inside Burmese territory.

BGB Director General Maj General Aziz said that a 10-member team of BGB led by an officer of BGB-Major rank went to the Burmese side crossing the borderline in response to a call from the Burmese Army and identified the body of dead BGB Corporal Nayek Mizanur.

US’s Biggest Investment in Burma: Ball Corp’s Can Factory

Yangon, 6 June —A NYSE-listed large US firm, Ball Corporation, has conducted first steps to build a one-line beverage can manufacturing plant in Myanmar at the Class A Area of Thilawa Special Economic Zone, which is located 25 km south of Yangon, with the signing of the contract agreement between MJTD (Myanmar-Japan ThilawaDevelopment Company) and US Ball Corp. on Friday to set up beverage can plant in Thilawa SEZ.

Mr. Scott Morrison, CEO of Ball Corporation, said the one-line plant is expected to begin production in mid-2015 with the full investment set to be $ 400 million. Meanwhile, Japanese Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Tateshi Higuchi announced that the signing of a contract with Koyo Radiator Co., Ltd, a Japanese firm specializing in automobile parts, took place in Japan on the same day.

Mr. Yanai Takashi, MJTD’s president and CEO, said more than 45 companies from 11 countries are making a beeline to the Thilawa industrial park’s Class A Area for setting up manufacturing plants and industries. “Discussions are underway and Myanmar companies specializing in plastic products, construction materials and steel are also among the MJTD allows US Ball Corp... firms as well as a Swedish company that has submitted proposal investments for the 400-hectare site”, he added.

Islamic terrorism is notable for the frequent use of suicidal volunteers eager to join the fight and intentionally die. Suicide attacks are not unique to Islam. The Hindu Tamil separatists of Sri Lanka (the LTTE) pioneered the modern use of suicide bombers three decades ago.

Between 1984 and 2006, the LTTE carried out 346 suicide bombing attacks (killing 3,262 civilians and wounding another 3,494). Through 2000, the LTTE accounted for most of the suicide bombing attacks on the planet. The LTTE was particularly effective at attacking senior politicians and security officials.

But each attack just made their opponents angrier rather than demoralized. The LTTE was eventually defeated, partly by an enraged Sri Lankan population, and partly because of dissention and demoralization within their own ranks.

Why Was Burma Not Invited To Modi’s Swearing-In?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi broke new ground last Monday by inviting the leaders of “every nation on India’s periphery” to his swearing-in ceremony.

These countries included all the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries as well as SAARC observer Mauritius. Even the Prime Minister in exile of Tibet was invited. Despite this impressive guest list, the leader of one of India’s neighbors, Myanmar, was not invited.

This fact is made all the more glaring because the omission of an invite seems to go against the new government’s desire to cultivate more substantial relations with its neighbors. India and Myanmar share a long 1,624-kilometer (1,009 mi) border.

Bowe Bergdahl: US Army Deserter For 5 Taliban Leaders

(CNN) -- The sense of pride expressed by officials of the Obama administration at the release of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is not shared by many of those who served with him -- veterans and soldiers who call him a deserter whose "selfish act" ended up costing the lives of better men.

"I was pissed off then and I am even more so now with everything going on," said former Sgt. Matt Vierkant, a member of Bergdahl's platoon when he went missing on June 30, 2009. "Bowe Bergdahl deserted during a time of war and his fellow Americans lost their lives searching for him."

Vierkant said Bergdahl needs to not only acknowledge his actions publicly but face a military trial for desertion under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

Nay Pyi Taw, 31 May—The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar issued a press release on 31 May. The full text of the press release is as follows:-

On 28 May 2014, around (MST) 09:00 hour, the Myanmar troops opened fire on two suspected armed Bengalis in yellow camouflage uniform who entered into the Myanmar territory within 80 feet from the Myanmar-Bangladesh border fence between Boundary Pillars 51 and 52 in the Maungdaw Township, Rakhine State and the exchange of fire between the two sides followed. One person was caught dead with one M-22 automatic rifle, four magazines and 98 rounds. The remaining person withdrew into the Bangladesh territory.

With respect to this incident, the Bangladeshi side alleged that the Myanmar side started opening fire on a team of the Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) which was patrolling along the border, and captured corporal Md. Mizanur Rahman.
