Trump Defended Pelosi As AOC Called Her A Racist

AOC - Pelosi is 'outright disrespectful' to new congresswomen of color: Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez described House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's verbal attacks against her and other freshman liberal members of the party "outright disrespectful."

Pelosi has spent much of the week feuding with Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Ayanna Pressley, the four female members of Congress who have received the most media attention since being elected to their first terms last fall.

“When these comments first started, I kind of thought that she was keeping the progressive flank at more of an arm’s distance in order to protect more moderate members, which I understood,” Ocasio-Cortez told the Washington Post on Wednesday. “But the persistent singling out ... it got to a point where it was just outright disrespectful ... the explicit singling out of newly elected women of color.”

In a closed-door meeting, Pelosi warned her party against tweeting about other members of the Democratic Party, according to the Post. The speaker's admonition came days after she told New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd that the vocal freshmen had little real power in Congress. “All these people have their public whatever and their Twitter world,” she said. “But they didn’t have any following. They’re four people (squad) and that’s how many votes they got.”

Trump: AOC calling Pelosi 'a racist is a disgrace'

President Trump weighed in on Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez feuding with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

"Well, I think Cortez, who kept Amazon out of New York and they don’t like her for that, thousands and thousands of jobs; I think Cortez is being very disrespectful to somebody that’s been there a long time. I deal with Nancy Pelosi a lot and we go back and forth and it’s fine. But I think that a group of people is being very disrespectful to her," Trump told reporters Friday. "I don’t think that Nancy can let that go on."

"But Cortez should treat Nancy Pelosi with respect. She should not be doing what she’s doing. And I’ll tell you something about Nancy Pelosi that you know better than I do. She is not a racist, okay. She is not a racist. For them to call her a racist is a disgrace."

Ocasio-Cortez and Pelosi traded barbs in the media over the last week after the California Democrat said the freshman congresswoman and her " squad" were just " four people." The New York Democrat suggested Pelosi was targeting her because of her race.

“But the persistent singling out ... it got to a point where it was just outright disrespectful ... the explicit singling out of newly elected women of color," Ocasio-Cortez said Wednesday. She quickly backtracked, clarifying that Pelosi was "absolutely not" racist.

President Donald Trump taunted the Democrats’ so-called “Squad” — the four far-left first-term representatives — on Sunday morning, telling them to go back and fix the places they came from before telling the rest of the country what to do.

He tweeted: So interesting to see “Progressive” Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly......

....and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run. Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how....

....it is done. These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough. I’m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!

Trump’s remarks seemed primarily directed at Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), who is from Somalia. On Friday, Omar said the president “shouldn’t be in office,” responding to his similar criticism of her, after questions from reporters. Earlier this month, Omar told an audience of high school students that the U.S. was failing to keep its promise to be a just society.

Of the other three members, one, Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), is a first-generation American whose parents immigrated from the West Bank, in an area administered by the Palestinian Authority. She represents a district that includes part of Detroit.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) represents parts of Queens and the South Bronx, and traces her roots to Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory. Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) is African-American, and was born to a single mother in Chicago.

The “Squad” is the nickname Pelosi has given the group, which is loosely organized around an organization called the “Justice Democrats,” which seeks to back primary challenges against moderate and white Democrat incumbents.

Ocasio-Cortez and her chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, have feuded with Pelosi and the Congressional Black Caucus recently. After Ocasio-Cortez suggested Pelosi was racist, President Trump defended the Speaker — often his nemesis — on Friday.

Sunday, in a devastating tweets stream that has set the internet ablaze, President Trump eviscerated “progressive” Dem Congresswomen, which most are interpreting as Ilhan Omar and other members of AOC’s Squad including Rashida Tlaib.

Trump wrote: So interesting to see “Progressive” Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly……

Ilhan Omar responded on Twitter. Mr. President, As Members of Congress, the only country we swear an oath to is the United States. Which is why we are fighting to protect it from the worst, most corrupt and inept president we have ever seen.

But many were not buying it. Adam K. Patriot tweeted: Says the woman who bashes America every chance she gets.
