Tom Hanks In Brisbane Self-isolation

'Common sense': Tom Hanks issues warning after testing positive for coronavirus: Tom Hanks has given fans an update on how he and his wife, Rita Wilson, are coping since being diagnosed with the coronavirus.

The 63-year-old actor is currently recovering from COVID-19 in a Gold Coast rental property and he urged his fans to keep their distance from each other in a bid to fight the virus.  “Hey, folks. Two weeks after our first symptoms and we feel better,” Tom wrote on Twitter. “Sheltering in place works like this: You don’t give it to anyone — You don’t get it from anyone. Common sense, no?”

“Going to take awhile, but if we take care of each other, help where we can, and give up some comforts… this, too, shall pass,” the actor wrote. “We can figure this out.” Tom’s statement comes just a few days after the famous actor’s sister revealed he wasn’t doing great in quarantine.

Tom Hanks' sister, Sandra Hanks Benoiton, said she had been in touch with her brother, before adding he was still under the weather. “I have communicated with my brother. He's not great, but still okay,” she told Daily Mail. “He's an actor, not a god,” she said, adding her appreciation for the medical care in Australia.

Sandra is Tom’s eldest sibling, and is currently living in Italy with her family. She moved there in 2016, and remains in lockdown herself. Tom and Rita have been active online updating their followers on their symptoms and the recovery process, with Tom previously taking to his social media to say: “Hey folks. Good News: One week after testing Positive, in self-isolation, the symptoms are much the same. No fever but the blahs,” Tom started his message on Wednesday.

“Folding the laundry and doing the dishes leads to a nap on the couch. Bad news: My wife @ritawilson has won 6 straight hands of Gin Rummy and leads by 201 points. But I have learned not to spread my Vegemite so thick. I travelled here with a typewriter, one I used to love. We are all in this together. Flatten the curve. Hanx."

Tom’s Vegemite comment comes after fans jokingly mocked the actor after he shared a photo from his hotel room, showing his meal of Vegemite on toast. “Ok that’s far too much vegemite on the toast,” one person wrote.

“With that amount of Vegemite the coronavirus is probably thinking let’s get outta here it’s not safe,” another person wrote, alongside a laughing emoji. “Can you tell by the comments us Aussies are pretty passionate about our Vegemite ... hope you feel better soon, all those B Vitamins in the Vegemite will do you good!,” another person said.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson left the Gold Coast University Hospital less than a week after testing positive for coronavirus. The famous couple, who are both 63, are now being quarantined at a rental home. Tom and Rita announced five days ago that they were being treated in an Australian hospital after contracting the virus.

“Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia,” Tom wrote on Instagram. “We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive.

“Well, now. What to do next? The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?

“We’ll keep the world posted and updated. Take care of yourselves!” Then, on Friday, Tom gave his millions of fans an update from his hospital room at Gold Coast University Hospital. “Hello folks. @ritawilson and I want to thank everyone here Down Under who are taking such good care of us,” Tom wrote on Instagram.

“We have Covid-19 and are in isolation so we do not spread it to anyone else. There are those for whom it could lead to a very serious illness. We are taking it one-day-at-a-time. There are things we can all do to get through this by following the advice of experts and taking care of ourselves and each other, no? Remember, despite all the current events, there is no crying in baseball. Hanx”

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have returned home to the United States after testing positive for COVID-19, the novel coronavirus, in Australia. The "Cast Away" actor took to his Twitter account to announce the good news after he and Wilson spent more than two weeks in Queensland self-isolating.

"Hey, Folks...We're home now and, like the rest of America, we carry on with sheltering in place and social distancing. Many, many thanks to everyone in Australia who looked after us. Their care and guidance made possible our return to the USA. And many thanks to all of you who reached out with well wishes. Rita and I so appreciate it. Hanx," the actor tweeted.

Hanks and Wilson, both 63, kept their fans updated throughout their quarantine process since first revealing their positive diagnosis on March 11. “Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive," the 63-year-old actor first revealed in a statement on Twitter.

He continued, "Well, now. What to do next?  The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no? We’ll keep the world posted and updated. Take care of yourselves!”

The couple reportedly stayed in a hospital in Queensland for five days before being released. Hanks was in Australia filming an untitled Elvis Presley biopic directed by Baz Luhrmann when he and Wilson learned they contracted the coronavirus. The film has since halted production.

One week following the couple's diagnosis, Hanks took to his social media to update fans on their symptoms. "Hey folks. Good News: One week after testing Positive, in self-isolation, the symptoms are much the same. No fever but the blahs," Hanks revealed. "Folding the laundry and doing the dishes leads to a nap on the couch."

Hanks then told fans that Wilson had beat him in six straight hands of gin rummy. "But I have learned not to spread my Vegemite so thick," he said referencing fans' reactions to a previous post showing his generous helping of Vegemite on toast.
