On 21st September ex-general Tin Oo, the Chairman of NLD (ASSK’s party), told the media at a news conference that the Buddhist monks from Ma-Ba-Tha, the official umbrella organization of 969 nationalist Buddhist monks, had been deliberately disturbing the NLD’s activities for coming November General Elections.

According to Tin Oo the Ma-Ba-Tha monks had been distributing pamphlets all over Burma urging Buddhist voters not to vote for NLD as NLD was against the recently-promulgated Race and Religion Protection Laws (Ah-myo-zount) and if NLD wins the November Elections they will repeal the said laws. Tin Oo also added that the religion should not be used for political purpose and NLD will never exploit religion to gain political advantage.

Ma-Ba-Tha is the main backer and pursuer of so-called Race Protection Law constituting four religion-related laws (Monogamy Law, Burmese Buddhist Women Marriage Law, Religion Conversion Law, and Muslim Population Restriction Law) recently passed by the Burma Parliament despite bitter opposition from Aung San Su Kyi’s party NLD.

NU’s functions primarily are the establishment and running of madrassas for the training of future generations of ulama, the running of mosques, the scrutiny of textbooks to ensure their orthodoxy, and the establishment of bodies to promote trade, industry and agriculture run along Islamic lines in accordance with the strict Sharia Law. NU in mid 1960s had basically wiped out Indonesian Christians and Buddhists in notorious 1965 Indonesian Genocide. Nearly two million non-Muslims were killed and the rest were forcefully converted into Islam.)

'If we remain quiet, we are dead.' These are the words that Munasir Ali uttered to a tense meeting of the leaders of the Muslim organisation Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) in Jakarta three days after the 30 September 1965 coup attempt had been defeated on 1 October by army units under the command of Major-General Suharto.

NU was a potentially critical actor in post-coup events. It was the largest Islamic party in Indonesia and the only major Islamic organisation to be part of Sukarno's Guided Democracy regime. Moreover, it also had a history of bloody conflict with communists, most notably in the communist uprising in Madiun in 1948 where hundreds of NU and PKI members were killed.

A combination of mass immigration (of different groups of people) plus forced assimilation would qualify as genocide, as defined by Article II, part (C) of the United Nations Genocide Conventions: “Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part.”

We were on a long range patrol down south following the tracks of a Communist Lisu unit that just shelled our hill with a 75mm recoilless-gun killing our brand new second-lieutenant and his young batman. And finally we lost track of them after two days on the range, so we decided to camp on a low hill for the night and turn back next day.

As we were preparing a fire to cook a hot meal our Kachin scout who had just gone down into the valley below to hunt came back up and told us that he had just seen the trampled tracks of at least a hundred loaded-mules on the valley floor. A hundred packed-mules did mean to us that over two hundred armed-guards and handlers were there too. We immediately killed the fire and just chewed the strips of boar-jerky as our dinner that night. By nightfall we could see the flickering lights of their many fireflies-like fires on the jungle-clad valley floor.

The mule train was one of the regular KIA opium caravans heading towards their labs by the border where the raw opium would be processed with lime in boiling water to get the white morphine base. Smokable in a pipe but not yet injectable, the base is now ready for further processing into fluffy-white heroin No. 4.

He was slumping lifeless in the dark staircase to the upper floors of the apartment building next door from our shop house. He was a bad boy from our neighbourhood and I was the first one to notice the body.

The blood-filled plastic syringe he used to inject heroin was still horribly stuck in his left forearm. Bubbly froth was slowly dripping from the corner of his gaping mouth but the twisted face still bore the last agonizing minutes just before his death. Heroin overdoses were common in our neighbourhood but I had never seen one before. It was ugly.

BUDAPEST — Hungarian bishop says pope is wrong about refugees. Pope Francis’s message Sunday couldn’t have been clearer: With hundreds of thousands of refugees flowing into Europe, Catholics across the continent had a moral duty to help by opening their churches, monasteries and homes as sanctuaries.

On Monday, the church’s spiritual leader for southern Hungary — scene of some of the heaviest migrant flows anywhere in Europe — had a message just as clear: His Holiness is wrong.

“They’re not refugees. This is an invasion,” said Bishop Laszlo Kiss-Rigo, whose dominion stretches across the southern reaches of this predominantly Catholic nation. “They come here with cries of ‘Allahu Akbar.’ They want to take over.”

The bishop’s stark language reflects a broader spiritual struggle in Europe over how to respond to a burgeoning flow of predominantly Muslim men, women and children onto a largely Christian continent.

Bangkok, May 5, 2015--Singaporean authorities on Sunday ordered an independent news website to be shut down, citing the website's content as being objectionable to state interests, according to news reports. The Real Singapore is the first news website to be shut down under Singapore's licensing regulations, introduced in 2013, according to CPJ research.

The Media Development Authority, a media regulatory board formed under Singapore's Ministry of Communications and Information, revoked the operating license of The Real Singapore for publishing content it said undermined "the public interest, public order, and national harmony," according to news reports. The agency ordered the website's editors to shut down its online and social media platforms by 8 p.m. on Sunday or face fines or imprisonment, the reports said. The site's editors complied with the order.

In a statement, the MDA said the site had "deliberately fabricated articles" and "sought to incite anti-foreigner sentiments in Singapore," reports said. The agency also said the site violated local regulations, including the Newspaper and Printing Presses Act and Broadcasting Act, which bar foreign ownership of registered news websites. The statement did not specify any articles.

The Burmese Indians who never went home: Every day Mohamed Eusoof Sarlan looks at his beloved homeland, a few hundred metres away from where he lives - but Myanmar's soldiers will not allow him to return to his country.

He is among thousands of Burmese Tamils living in the north-eastern Indian town of Moreh in Manipur state, which borders Myanmar, also known as Burma. Mr Sarlan and other Indian-origin people were forced to leave the country following a military coup in the 1960s. Their businesses were nationalised and Mr Sarlan, who used to live in Rangoon (now called Yangon), and others became penniless refugees overnight.

Mr Sarlan has spent most of his life as a refugee. It is estimated that nearly 300,000 Indians fled the country following the coup. "After we reached India, for the first three months we were living in a refugee camp in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. Though Tamil Nadu was the land of our forefathers, it was difficult to live there without any support," recalls Mr Sarlan, 74, who is now a social activist.

Majority Of Republicans Believe Obama Is A Muslim

Washington D.C.: A majority of Republican voters, 54 percent, think that President Obama is a Muslim, according to a new survey from the left-leaning Public Policy Polling (PPP). Asked whether they thought Obama is a Christian or Muslim or if they were unsure, 32 percent said they were unsure. Fourteen percent said he was a Christian.

Many right-leaning voters have been deeply skeptical about Obama's faith since before he became president. The topic arose again prominently in 2012, when Obama faced former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, a devout Mormon, in the general election. Obama rarely invokes his own faith in speeches and public appearances, though has remarked about his Christian faith during comments for holidays such as Easter.

The PPP survey obtained by MSNBC was conducted over the past week and has a margin of error of 4.1 points.

Refugees or Illegal Migrants or Asylum Seekers?

The battle over the words used to describe migrants. Images of people scrambling over barbed wire fences in Calais or crossing the Mediterranean in fishing boats have dominated the media over the last few months. And a debate has even emerged about the very words used to describe people.

The word migrant is defined in Oxford English Dictionary as "one who moves, either temporarily or permanently, from one place, area, or country of residence to another". It is used as a neutral term by many media organisations - including the BBC - but there has been criticism of that use.

Since almost all are Muslims the staunchly-Muslim News website al-Jazeera has decided it will not use migrant and "will instead, where appropriate, say refugee". An online editor for the network wrote: "It has evolved from its dictionary definitions into a tool that dehumanises and distances, a blunt pejorative." A Washington Post piece asked if it was time to ditch the word.

Second Muslim Man Caught For Bangkok Bombing

BBC Bangkok: A second foreign suspect has been arrested in connection with the deadly bombing at a Bangkok shrine in August, the Thai prime minister has said. The male suspect was arrested in Sa Kaeo province, east of Bangkok on the border with Cambodia, Prayuth Chan-ocha told reporters. He described the man as "a main suspect".

A foreign man was arrested in Bangkok on Saturday over the blast at Erawan shrine, which killed 20 people. Thai military authorities have been interrogating the 28-year-old man, but they have not yet released his name or nationality.

Bomb-making materials and forged passports were found at the apartment where he was detained in Nong Jok on the outskirts of Bangkok, and he has been charged with possessing illegal explosives, police said.
