Nur Islam jailed for setting fire to Springvale Commonwealth Bank, burning people inside: A (Rohingya Muslim) man who set fire to a bank in suburban Melbourne — seriously injuring four people inside — has been sentenced to 11 years in prison.

Nur Islam set the bank on fire after experiencing problems with his bank card. There were 39 people inside, including an eight-year-old who thought she was going to die. Islam will be eligible for parole after seven years. Nur Islam pleaded guilty to a total of 16 charges, including arson and recklessly causing serious injury.

He then set the petrol alight with a cigarette lighter. Judge Howard Mason noted Islam's offending had been captured on numerous cameras up and down Springvale Road.

"[It] constitutes dramatic and sickening viewing," he said. Islam's actions caused "panic, confusion and danger" inside the bank, Judge Mason said. "There appears to be no rational explanation for your bizarre and callous actions." The 24-year-old, from Myanmar, must serve a minimum of seven years in jail before becoming eligible for parole.

Travel Ban Ends Nearly All Immigration from Terrorist-Sanctioned Countries: President Donald Trump’s travel ban executive order is proving to be one of his most effective pro-American immigration policy initiatives, stopping nearly all legal immigration from countries designated as sponsors of terrorism.

Newly released data from the State Department reveals that Trump’s constitutional travel ban on eight foreign countries, designated as either dangerous or sponsors of terrorism, has warranted big results.

The travel ban, State Department data finds, has reduced legal immigration from the eight foreign countries by about 80 percent, compared to 2016 when the ban had not been implemented yet. Six of the eight countries included in Trump’s travel ban have either sponsored Islamic terrorism in the past or have major issues with terrorism.

Can’t say it’s a shock to see the Left turning on one of its largest and most loyal support groups – the Jews: Why do 70% of American Jews consistently vote Democrat? Look at history.

In the beginning of the 20th Century, when waves of Jewish refugees and immigrants were escaping pogroms and coming into America, the Jews, as was the case for many other immigrant groups, were not looked upon favorably by much of the American population, most of whom were Christian.

In fact, back then, neither Democrats nor Republicans had much use for the Jews, but a small party that was trying desperately to increase its numbers – the Liberal party – saw the Jewish immigrants as potential voters and reached out to them. Thrilled to be accepted by any American institution or political party, Jews became loyal Liberals, and then loyal Democrats as Liberals merged with the Democrat party later on.

Get Used to Oil Tankers Hauling Seawater to America -- Supertankers hauling seawater across the Atlantic? That's just one of the odder results of the U.S. shale boom. Crude oil has always flowed backwards and forwards across the world’s oceans.

A typical voyage by one of the global fleet of around 750 of the giant ships currently in service might see it haul Middle Eastern exports across the Atlantic to a refinery on the U.S. Gulf coast, then pick up a cargo from Venezuela for delivery to China or India, before returning to the Persian Gulf.

Vessels only earn money when they’re full, so being able to haul cargoes in both directions across the seas makes a great deal of sense for ship owners. But soaring U.S. production, OPEC output cuts and sanctions on Iran and Venezuela are turning the global crude oil trade on its head.

Dumb Energy: A Critique Of Wind & Solar Energy

From the Introduction: The core characteristic of wind and solar is that these are erratic sources of electricity. The supply is randomly intermittent. The wind and solar promoters demand that the grid be reengineered to become a “smart” grid.

The idea is that if the grid is smart enough that will compensate for the dumb wind and solar energy. That’s what they have in mind. The point of the smart grid is to make the grid more agile, the better to follow the ups and downs of wind and solar.

Extracting energy from wind and sunlight is a seductive theory. But, the theory is impractical. The installations are too expensive. The power produced is erratic, changing with the comings and goings of the wind and sun.

Erratic power saves fuel in fossil fuel plants when it arrives, but it does not displace investment in fossil fuel plants. Those plants must still be present as backup for the erratic power.

Venezuela was my home, and socialism destroyed it. Slowly, it will destroy America, too. While neither 'Medicare for All' nor a wealth tax will turn America into Venezuela overnight:

The first time I couldn’t buy food at the grocery store, I was 15 years old. It was 2014 in Caracas, Venezuela, and I had spent more than an hour in line waiting. When I got to the register, I noticed I had forgotten my ID that day. Without the ID, the government rationing system would not let the supermarket sell my family the full quota of food we needed. It was four days until the government allowed me to buy more.

This was fairly normal for me. All my life, I lived under socialism in Venezuela until I left and came to the United States as a student in 2016. Because the regime in charge imposed price controls and nationalized the most important private industries, production plummeted. No wonder I had to wait hours in lines to buy simple products such as toothpaste or flour.

On December 7, 2015, President Trump called for a Muslim ban. This ban later turned into “extreme vetting” policies, which—according to Trump—had the same goal. Now nearing the 2-year mark of his administration, an accurate assessment of these policies is now possible.

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Democratic presidential hopeful Cory Booker on Sunday delivered what he called the "hard truth" about Medicare-for-all: It will be difficult to pass, so the party should also ready more incremental changes.

His rival Sen. Kamala Harris the next day championed the Green New Deal, a sweeping climate proposal - before adding: "Some of it we'll achieve, some of it we won't." Then on Monday night, Sen. Amy Klobuchar told a young questioner at a CNN town hall that, unlike some of her fellow candidates, she would not support making four-year college free. "If I was a magic genie and could give that to everyone and we could afford it, I would," she said.

The increasingly large 2020 Democratic presidential field is fighting two simultaneous battles: a chaotic intraparty primary struggle over how far left to push their policies and a broader question of how to confront the challenge posed by President Donald Trump, who has already begun casting the Democrats as socialists.

The dynamic has put a squeeze on the Democratic candidates as they begin to lay out their messages. They are being pressed from one side by core Democratic voters hungry for leftist policies favored by the most energized activists and, from the other, by the need to court centrist voters who could be alienated by the party's turn to the left.

Mueller’s Witch Hunt: Time To Shut Down?

Mueller's witch hunt a growing disaster for national security: The evidence is mounting that Special Counsel Robert Mueller's open-ended investigation into whether President Trump colluded with the Russians to steal the election from Hillary Clinton (which has turned up nothing on that specific front) is becoming more than just a political burr under the saddle of President Trump.  It may be a growing national security problem.

Here are four points that demonstrate the extent of this problem. First, the law of two-can-play-that-game is coming into play, changing the nature of diplomacy – for the worse. Mueller's team indicted 12 GRU-linked Russians for hacking, which they probably did, as his means of showing that something is there on the hacking front and can be brought to court. 

In the past, this was never done.  Cold Warriors stayed in the shadows and played their rough law-of-the-jungle games, unknown to civilians, but now Mueller wants it brought out into the open on new terms, through courts and lawyers and jail terms.  The Russians can see this, and that has prompted them to issue tit-for-tat retaliation. 

Russia's investigators are calling for questioning of former U.S. ambassador Michael McFaul, who they know is one of the loudest and most obnoxious anti-Trump Obama officials, and President Trump has apparently left that door open.
