Who Really is so-called Journalist Francis Wade?

Following the well-trodden path of the likes of notorious Burma-hater Bertil Lintner and that Burmese-traitor Dr. Zar Ni, the so-called freelance journalist Francis Wade has been quite busy trashing our beloved Burma for a while now.

His anti-Burmese-Buddhist (and) pro-Bengali-Muslim rants are the favourite fables of Qatar-based Islamic media organization Aljazebra (the unofficial mouthpiece of Al-Qaeda Islamist terrorists) and that slanted internet-media-site called The Asian Correspondent.

NURESIA: Sharia Nation covering Bangladesh & Arakan?

Islamists want Sharia state inside Bangladesh.  A number of jihadist terror outfits comprising Lashkar-e-Toiba, Harkatul Jihad, Joish-e-Mohammed, Hizbut Towhid, Jamaatul Mujahin Bangladesh, Hizbut Tahrir, RSO, ARNO, Ibtada Tullah al-Muslemin [ITM], United Student Association of Arakan Movement, ASSF etc are conspiring to establish a Sharia estate within the eastern province in Bangladesh.

Later it was found to be effective as planned. All was quiet on both banks of the river for a long while. Then the sound of gongs and long drums burst forth, "Mong, sae mong!" The chief of the Shan forces shouted, "Pakamoong! Hey! Jee Hey! Pao Hey!? He was calling the gang in the city under the leader Pakamoong to set fire to the city of Chiangrai. Unfortunately for him this gang was being held in custody in the temple of Wat Phra Singh.

So nothing happened as planned by the Shans. Simultaneously gun-fire began at the bridgehead mixed with the sound of drums and gongs and Shans shouting "Wat Lae! Wat Lae!" which was similar in meaning to the cry of dacoits farther south who would shout, "Ai sua aow wah!" when making an attack. Apart from firing their rifles the Shans shot off fire crackers to frighten people in the city.

Socialist Thugs Disrupt Geert Wilder’s Melbourne Speech!

A large group of angry protesters has scuffled with people attending a Melbourne speech by controversial Dutch MP Geert Wilders. There were verbal exchanges on Monday evening as about 200 protesters wrestled with those trying to access the venue at Somerton, in the city's north.

The demonstrators took guests' tickets and pushed them to the ground. "What are you doing? This is a democratic society. We're allowed to go in there," one guest told the protesters. Mounted police then moved in, forming a line to try to stop the scuffles.

BHP Boss Quits after Company Profit Halved!

BHP Billiton chief executive Marius Kloppers will stand aside in May, after the company's profit halved.

The world's biggest miner posted a 58 per cent fall in first-half net profit to $US4.24 billion, while the company's underlying earnings - which excludes one-off write-downs and gains - dropped 43.4 per cent to $US5.68 billion.

The result came in broadly in line with average analyst forecasts of a $US5.72 billion underlying profit, according to a Bloomberg survey. BHP Billiton's revenue fell 14 per cent compared to the same period a year earlier to $US32.2 billion, as commodity prices generally softened.

Captain Marqvard Jensen’s bravery is not forgotten, and his name has been recalled now and then through all these years. In 1929 a Dane, Mr. Steiner wrote to The Committee for The Danish Society and told them that the original eight foot tall memorial post at kilometer 130 had fallen to pieces. It bore the inscription: ‘Here fell Captain Jensen in a battle with the Shan’ (translated from Thai).

Mr. Steiner then collected two pieces with the inscription and forwarded them to the Society. He then suggested that the small area where the Captain actually fell, 30 meters from the road should be registered and that a small memorial stone should be placed there. He asked the Society to bear the expenses. Someone financed a small durable memorial, which is still there today.

Recently a foreign friend told Mr. Torben Poulsen, a Dane residing in Chiang Mai, that the inscription on the obelisk of Hans Marqvard Jensen was no longer readable and the stone was dirty. He asked the Embassy for support to renovate the memorial, but in the end found that all he needed was some scouring powder and a bit of elbow grease. He then did the job himself.

Illegal Mosque Being Dismantled by Buddhists in Rangoon!

The new racio-religious near-riots in Rangoon’s impoverished-township of Tharketa was simply started by heated arguments between the protesting Buddhist Burmese women and a Muslim Bengali woman whose house has been slowly and illegally transformed into a Arabic-language-Madrassa-cum-Mosque.

The Muslim-Bengali woman was reported to have insulted the local Buddhist-Burmese by yelling aloud that they Muslim-Bengalis were building their own mosque since they had a lot of foreign money (from the likes of Saudi Arabia and OIC) and the Buddhist-Burmese beggars were just overly jealous.

Field Marshal Surasak arrived and for months the destruction of the rebels, and many innocent Shans and Lao (as all the northern people were called at this time) was ruthlessly carried out. It was not until September 1903 that the rebellion was officially declared to be over. Heavy- handed the Siamese certainly were, but the north (and the Shans) never again defied the rule of Bangkok.

The three British involved all happened to be founding members of the Gymkhana Club. The Centenary Book has this to say about them.

W.R.D. Beckett. Born 1864. British Consul at Chiang Mai 1896-1903. Transferred to Bangkok. Married Ivy Goring 1911. Leonowens accused him of failing in his duty when he did not leave Chiang Mai during the Shan rebellion. He was a good organiser and the driving force behind the C.G.C. the Chiang Mai foreign cemetery and the Queen Victoria Memorial. Died 1917.

Shans in Northern Thailand.

Even though Shans in Thailand are a very large native-ethnic group they seem to be quite docile and happy being slowly turned into Thais by the dominant Thais.

Totally unlike their cousins in Burma where they have been waging war after war against the Burmese majority to keep their racial and cultural identity intact. And even for a separate independent Shan nation as their ultimate political goal seemingly backed by the Thais.

I’ve always wondered what’d happened to the Shans in Thailand for them to be contented with just being affectionately called Thai-Yai (Big Thai) while completely surrendering their ethnic identity to the Thai majority. Then I discovered from my favourite blog the New Mandala about the 1902 Shan Rebellion and how the poor Shans in Thailand were brutally Siamized at the beginning of 20^th century.
